About the Author

While growing up, S.M. would travel the roads around her house while imagining she was somewhere else. Her imagination would take her everywhere, making the long hot summer days seem shorter throughout her fantasies. At the age of twelve, she decided to write her first book. Filled mostly with dialog, she filled up one-hundred pages, front and back. After taking the book downstairs to show her mom, and persuading her to buy her more paper, she excitedly ran back to her room. As she barreled through the door, S.M. tripped over items left on her floor, and her papers came raining down in her room. Discouraged, she stood there in tears, picking up her papers and throwing them in the trash. Her work had no organization, no numbers on her pages, just a child fulfilling a joy that she would put down and not pick up again. When she became older, she joined the military for something different. In that time, she was able to explore many places and even met her husband in Iraq. After coming home, she started her family in Arizona and went back to school, earning a Master's degree in Adult Education and Training.

Free Ebook! Red is for Rage by Connie Corcoran Wilson

Named by Shelf Unbound, "a page-turner of 2013 and both an E-Lit Gold Medal winner (Horror), a Silver Feather (IWPA) winner, and a Lucky Cinda winner, Red Is For Rage: A Paranormal Thriller, is the second book in the young adult series (THE COLOR OF EVIL). In Book Two, we learn more about the exact nature of Tad’s paranormal power, Tetrachromatic Super Vision. Can this keen sight help Tad find Stevie Scranton? Will Tad suffer another breakdown from reliving the crimes of serial killer Michael Clay (aka, Pogo, the Killer Clown), as he did when only eight years old? Can Tad learn to harness his special sight to help his loved ones?

When Stevie Scranton goes missing, best friend Tad vows to do everything he can to find him. Even if Stevie is dead, Sally and Earl Scranton, (his parents), and Shannon, (Stevie’s older sister), crave closure. Tad enlists the help of retired policeman Charlie Chandler and a team of volunteers, including Charlie’s old partner, Evelyn Hoeflinger. This rag-tag team of detectives continues searching for Stevie Scranton, the runty misfit of Cedar Falls’ Sky High. In their search, they discover a monster every bit as dangerous as Pogo and must confront him in order to save Stevie.

Tad sees auras around others that tell him whether they are good or evil. The truly evil are surrounded by a khaki aura (THE COLOR OF EVIL). At night, Tad suffers vivid nightmares that depict the crimes of the evil-doers. Michael Clay (the serial killer Pogo) escapes custody. On the loose again, Pogo’s actions restart the vicious cycle of violent nightmares. Pogo poses a threat to the entire town of Cedar Falls, but he is especially a threat to Tad McGreevy.

Pogo has one main goal: kill Tad McGreevy so that Tad cannot disclose Clay’s location. Pogo doesn’t realize that, up until now, Tad has been unable to harness the paranormal ability he possesses. Now, Tad McGreevy must try to learn to use his unique gift. Stevie Scranton’s fate hangs in the balance. Tad’s power, if precognitive, could save everyone he loves.
Jenny SanGiovanni returns from her father’s home in Boulder, Colorado, to finish her senior year with her old classmates. She brings home a new set of problems. Jeremy Gustaffsson, the fifth-year senior boyfriend in Jenny’s junior year, graduated. But Jeremy is still in town, still obsessed with Jenny, still dangerous.
When Jenny broke up with Jeremy, it made Jeremy mad. Bad things happen to good people when Jeremy Gustaffsson gets angry and descends into a red rage.

All Jenny’s cheerleader friends from her junior year are back. Many, like Janice Kramer, Heather Crompton and Melody Harris, have problems of their own. Jenny deals with adolescent issues such as self-esteem and self-worth, problems that tax her soul. But Jenny is not alone. Another Sky High student is driven to the brink.

Will that individual plunge into the abyss of despair?

And what of the adults? What has the stress of Stevie’s nine-month ordeal done to Earl and Sally Scranton’s marriage? What problems confront the other adults in Cedar Falls as three evil-doers rise up to create chaos and do them harm?

RED IS FOR RAGE and rage runs rampant in this small Iowa town in the year of our Lord 2004.

Banished from home while her husband adjusts to life as an immortal,
blood-drinking chronicler, Emily Black is homesick, heartsick and struggling under the constant sensory barrage of a city drenched in ancient magic. When an old friend asks for her aid in solving a string of murders, she welcomes the distraction, despite the danger.

Justine Dubois is grateful for a seer’s help, and more understanding than anyone of Emily’s plight. As a guardian, Justine commands respect; as a woman, her magic is considered inferior. Together, they are determined to prove their worth to London’s magicians, starting with solving these murders—with maybe a bit of matchmaking on the side.

Long before he met his soul mate, Michael Black made a commitment to join the Order of St. Jerome. He will live forever, forced to watch the woman he loves age and die. As Emily hunts the murderer, Michael struggles to protect her. But if he loses control of his hunger, the greatest threat to her safety could be Michael himself.

blood-drinker relations, and adorable plot moppets.

Excerpt:
Normally stepping into a garden would soothe me, but we were still within London, where there was no comfort whatsoever. I looked up at the night sky and wished I were with Michael.
“You have the soul of an artist, Miss Rose. It is a rare gift.” Mr. Paris stroked my hand, and I tugged it free of his arm. I folded both hands before me primly and smiled.
“Again, that is very kind of you.”
“I consider myself a patron of the arts.”
“So you attend gatherings such as this often?” I asked.
“Of course. I am always on the lookout for new talent.”
“I see. Did you know Mrs. Harding?” I tried to examine his aura to determine his reaction, but his magic continued to be so overwhelming that my eyes watered. Mr. Paris must be unspeakably powerful, and I found myself both worried and intrigued. Perhaps he was a sorcerer? One who specialized in darkness?
“I did. Poor girl. What a terrible thing to have happened to her and her family… Tell me, are you working on a second collection of your work?” he asked, quickly changing the subject.
“I am, though I am afraid the subject matter is quite a bit darker.”
Mr. Paris smiled a predatory grin, and my pulse leapt with a thrill of fear. “I am not afraid of the dark, Miss Rose. Are you?”
He stepped closer, but I held my ground, studying him with a curious tilt to my head. “What are you?” I asked.
He blinked, startled. “I beg your pardon?”
“What sort of magic do you practice?” I clarified.
“Oh. I am a librarian, of course,” he replied, and I laughed, unable to help myself. “What’s so funny?”
“You are most certainly not a librarian. Do people truly believe that lie?”
The smile slid from Mr. Paris’s face as his expression hardened. He stepped forward and tried to grab my arm, but Miss Dubois was suddenly between us, a shining silver blur. With a snarl he turned and ran, and the guardian chased him out of the garden and into the street.
Uncertain of what to do, I followed. I stood hesitant at the garden gate, wondering which way they went. My vision shifted, and I followed Miss Dubois’s blazing footsteps. I paused next to a blur traced over the high brick wall of another garden. It was another magical doorway, rather like the one I had discovered near Mrs. Harding’s body outside the Undiscovered Country. Foolishly I raised my hand to touch it, despite knowing full well that doing so could trigger another vision, but a hand emerged from the brick wall and grabbed my wrist.
Overwhelmed with shock, I barely managed a strangled gasp as Mr. Paris stepped through the wall and glared down at me. “Who are you?” he demanded.
“You first.” My voice trembled, and Mr. Paris grinned. He tightened his grip and snapped several small bones in my wrist, and I screamed.
“Who are you?” he repeated.
Something bubbled up within me, a bright plume of prophetic magic that became my answer. “I am your end.” That time my voice did not tremble at all, but was filled with terrible certainty. I would cause Mr. Paris’s death, and I knew it with as much confidence as I knew the sun would rise in the morning.
Something in my gaze must have worried him, because he snarled. Scowling, he grabbed my forearm with both hands and twisted. The bone snapped like dry kindling, and I screamed again. Before he could torment me further Miss Dubois arrived and bashed him with a round silver shield. Mr. Paris vanished into thin air, and the guardian stood near me. One arm bore the shield, while in her other hand she held a sword. How cunning of her. I wanted a sword as well.
“Are you all right?” she asked.
My knees wobbled and began to buckle, but then two dark blurs streaked up to us, and I was suddenly swept from my feet and cradled close in Michael’s arms.
“Darling! What happened?” he asked.
“You caught me.” I blinked—however had he moved that fast? Simon sighed and shook his head at his student, and I sensed that Michael and I were both in for a scolding.
“Of course I did. I will always catch you. Are you all right?”

My thoughts:
This was my first Robyn Bachar read.  I loved the story.  The characters are fantastic!  Creative and interesting, I enjoyed the book very much.  My only wish is that I would have read book one first.

Anyta Sunday Book Tour

Welcome to The Wormhole and my stop on the tour.

Veined: Guardians of the Angels: Book I
Anyta Sunday

Genre: YA Paranormal Romance
Number of pages: 446 pages

Book Description:

It could be worse for Sylva Lark. She could be dead. A coma was nothing to that. Or her family moving across country for the treatment, leaving her with a big blue mark on her back.

She can handle it.

Mostly.

Except the mark glows and tingles, especially whenever transition helper Atticus Plot (Attic) is close by. She suspects he’s hiding something, and when she stumbles across a torn body bearing the same spiral marking as her own, that suspicion is confirmed.

After a few shaves with death, the truth finally comes out and the battles begin.

But not all her fights are external; her biggest one is the decision she has to make between doing the right thing for the world and giving up her beloved family for good.

Veined Excerpt (Partial of first Chapter):

DAYTIME TELEVISION SOAPS are funny. Brain transplants, lovers that turn out to be related, and characters that slip into comas. Yeah, I'd thought soaps pretty darn hilarious until the day I woke up from a coma.
And into this drama. I bit my bottom lip and looked at the doctor (Albelin, as he’d introduced himself seconds ago). Although Albelin stood next to the bed, his voice echoed like he was at the other end of a tunnel. “. . . coma . . . much sooner than anticipated.”
Goose bumps dotted my skin and I tucked the hospital sheet—the only thing covering my body save a pair of ungenerous undies that were giving me a wedgie—tightly under my arms.
My thoughts spiraled. I strained to recall how I’d arrived here in the first place, but I couldn't remember much. There had been a flash of color, and then—blank.
Albelin's curly black hair swished as he moved his gaze away from me and toward his vibrating pocket. Something on the side of his neck caught my attention. A black tattoo, like the wing of an eagle. But it disappeared behind his collar as he pulled out his phone. He scanned the screen, and then stuffed the phone back into his pocket. “Your family is on their way,” he said.
My family. Faces and partial memories popped up like a black-and-white film, with someone slowly winding the crank. A blonde woman unraveling a kite—Mom. A man in a police uniform—Dad. And a boy building a Lego tower—Jeffrey.
“Right.” The word felt hollow and scratched the inside of my throat. Using the corner of the sheet to cover my mouth, I coughed. It hurt my chest and sounded wet.
With watery eyes, I scanned the room. I’d been so stuck on the word coma, I’d failed to notice my basic surroundings. My coughing came to an abrupt stop, but my thoughts continued to gallop. It wasn’t as though I knew what coming out of a coma should feel like, but I had an idea what it should look like. Where was the respirator? The drip? Heart monitor? In fact, the only features of the room that indicated hospital were the green walls and linoleum flooring.
Albelin must have read my panicky expression as I’d surveyed the room, because he started to explain, “We used a new method involving electro-magnetism to bring you back to consciousness. That’s why you aren’t wearing anything and why you shouldn’t have any issues with muscle deterioration. That, and we’ve given you protein supplements.”
Electro-magnetism? That sounded like something I’d hear in a physics class. My stomach flipped and I swallowed the awkward laugh that rose to my throat and caused a gurgling sound. This wasn’t just some run-of-the-mill hospital at all. Maybe it was experimental, maybe there'd been no other option. Oh, God, what happened to me?
I craned my neck from side to side. My muscles were stiff, but at least I was conscious. I let out a shuddering breath and blinked back the water pooling in my eyes. I didn't care that I was seventeen and supposed act big and brave and something close to an adult. Right now all I wanted was my mom.
Albelin smiled, barely crinkling the skin at the sides of his eyes, but his smile didn't soothe the erratic butterflies in my belly. If anything, it made them worse; he was so young to be a doctor. He couldn’t have been more than twenty-five.
Reaching under the bed, he pulled out a duffel bag and handed it to me. My duffel bag. The one I took to gymnastics trainings. “Here are some clothes for you to change into.”
I twisted the familiar canvas handles around my palm.
“Showers aren’t far,” he added, “just out those doors, second on the left. Towel’s in the bag. Let me help you there.”
Holding the sheet, I stood up. My legs felt like jelly, but I shook my head at Albelin’s offer. “I think I can manage.” I wobbled my way toward the swing doors.
Albelin raced to my side. “I insist on helping you.”
He attempted to brace my elbow, but I pulled away. “Thanks, but—but—” I needed alone time. To think. And I didn’t want anyone touching me while I was wearing practically nothing but a sheet. "I'll be fine, really. I'll yell if I need help."
As soon as I was in the hall, I rested one hand against the wall and used it as a crutch. I was doing all right considering I’d not used my legs in weeks.
Light filtered through the windows, imprinting squares on the opposite wall. I pressed my hand in the center of one as I looked outside onto the street. Mom, Dad and Jeffrey would be coming soon.
I jumped, dropping the duffel bag when a flash of black whizzed by. A tall guy wearing a green T-shirt and tight black gloves up to his elbows was striding down the hall. I lunged to grab the bag, but my foot caught in the sheet, ripping it from under my arms. My head jerked up as the scratchy cotton sunk to my feet and I chased after it.
Palms sweating, I wrapped the sheet tightly around me, heat swelling my cheeks. At least he'd jerked his head away. Still, it didn't stop my heart from thumping double-to-one in embarrassment.
Pick up the bag and move. Go shower.
He glanced back, sweeping his hair to the side. With a chuckle, Gloved Guy passed by and pushed through the swinging doors of my room. As soon as he was behind them, Albelin greeted him. It sounded like they knew each other well. I reached to pick up the duffel bag and stopped.
“Her name’s Lark?” Gloved Guy’s voice sounded amused by my name. “Like the bird?”
I crept closer. Why was Albelin talking about me?
“Sylva Lark,” Albelin corrected.
“And?”
“And she’s veined.” . . .

Lethed: Guardians of the Angels: Book II
Anyta Sunday

Genre: YA Paranormal Romance
Number of pages: 418 pages

Book Description:

Sylva Lark made her choice.

Now she has to adjust to Guardian life. Training. Killing demons. Controlling her powers.

If only giving up her family wouldn’t hurt so damn much, . . . and if there wasn’t a strange attraction to the betrothed Prince Atticus she just met . . .

Amongst murder and mayhem, and toeing an unclear line between right and wrong, Sylva and her fellow Guardians must find a way to secure Eirene.

But it’s not easy going up against underworld Queen Furie when those on Sylva’s side are hiding secrets . . .

Will they succeed in protecting the home of the angels? Or will they fail, submitting the heavens to the fate of Furie?

And will Sylva and Attic ever remember what they mean to each other?

Or will they stay forever Lethed?

Lethed (Partial of First Chapter):

SOMETHING WATCHED ME. I sensed its sadistic presence. Tingles of anticipation snaked from the nape of my neck down my spine.
With one hand pressed firmly on my rickety, white-picket side gate, I glanced over my shoulder.
The tree-lined street stared back at me. Snow-dusted branches accentuated the silky navy sky, and meager yellow light leaked from the lampposts.
I strained to hear the telltale crunching of snow. Nothing. Breathing in, I sought the sour smell of evil in the breeze or the tinny smell of blood—a scent I’d become familiar with in the last few months.
Again, nothing.
Just a sharp cold that promised winter would linger this year.
My shoulders sagged in relief. I wasn’t supposed to be out alone—I promised Albelin I’d always take another Guardian with me if I left the motel premises. Perhaps my guilty conscience was responsible for this strange sensation of evil.
I hadn’t wanted to disobey him. Not really.
I clutched the gate, its splintered edges digging into my palms, and studied the house in front of me.
Steadying my breath, I opened the latch and pushed through to the path. Frosty stalks of lavender brushed the back of my hand in a light, swirling breeze as I took in the large acorn tree. Beyond it, the luminescent windows radiated warmth and beckoned me home.
No, I didn’t want to disobey Albelin.
I needed to.
Like every week, I crept to the side of the house and peered into the living room. Slouched on the couch watching TV, Mom sat with her head resting on Dad’s shoulder, and Mottle was tucked into the small space between them. My brother Jeffrey wasn’t in the room—but it was near midnight, so he probably lay tucked up in bed.
Dad kissed the top of Mom’s head and her lips moved. Love you too, honey.
I wondered if Dad heard Mom’s whispered words. It seemed cruel that I could hear the words meant for him when I wanted them to be meant for me.
But they couldn’t ever be for me anymore. Not since I’d chosen to give them up to become an angel-protecting, demon-killing Guardian.
My stomach roiled and I stifled a cry.
I slunk back into the shadows, waiting for the warm weight of darkness to smother me into numbness again. It worked the last three months.
Digging each jagged fingernail into my sweaty palms, I counted down from ten. I looked forward to replacing the frustration and hurt with dull throbbing. But at “one,” nothing changed. I backed up harder against the corrugated fencing behind me, the cold seeping through my shirt.
Dad’s head jerked back in laughter that verged on maniacal. It used to make me laugh, too—at Dad. But now it made me want to bang on the windowpane until it shattered, and with it the thick wall of memories they couldn’t see between us.
I twisted the ring on my little finger, hoping the comforting tic would help me.
It stopped me from yelling out, but it didn’t curb the tears. Sizable drops splashed onto my hand as I wiped a sniffle from my nose.
I instantly forgot about the tears as a ripping pain sliced down my forearm. Blood seeped through my light-blue sleeve. I whistled in a breath as I clutched the cut. Usually, I relied on the semi-regular cuts and stabbing burns to snap me to a keen sense of reality, but now the pain inside me did the job well enough.
Mottle jumped off the couch and trotted to the window. She pawed at the glass and meowed.
I sighed. At least Mots remembered me. Her gray fur pressed up against the window as if begging me to pat her. She butted her head, rattling the glass, and I suddenly couldn’t bear her leaving me alone.
She was one member of my family I could still have.
“I’m coming to get you,” I whispered.
As if she understood me, she leaped off the sill and padded out of the living room.
I moved with purpose to the front of the house, my feet lightly treading the leaf-covered path. I searched the potted-plants for a spare key. Surely there’d be one here somewhere. . . .
First pot. Second.
Dammit!
Where could they have hidden it? Or had they moved it after Dad worked the Guardian homicide cases a few months ago? Flashes of torn Guardian bodies flickered in my mind, eliciting waves of goose bumps over my skin.
For a small city, Foxtin’s high death rate . . . I shuddered. Demons—Keres and Arae—slaughtered us Guardians as if they drew hot knives through butter. I saw it.
I also saw them turn my friend Marcus and ex-boyfriend Jason part-demon.
Saw them kill Maddy, my best friend. . . .

Anyta has stopped by for an interview:
? How many jobs did you have before you became a writer?
Lol, a lot of random ones. Directly before I considered myself a writer, I was an English teacher in a German school.
Before that, I did student-like jobs. I was a cleaner for a paper factory, I worked as a barmaid, I lived in a tent on a farm for the summer and sorted cherries and some casual vineyard work, I worked in a sports store, and I worked in a Swarovski crystal store.

? What would you say is your most interesting writing quirk?
Writing quirk. Nice question, I might need to think about it for a moment . . . I know when I get into the zone I forget to eat or drink. Oh, and I have this habit where I rapidly and jerk my foot—I do think when I’m searching for the right word when it’s on the tip of my tongue but won’t quite make its way out!

? Do you have a routine that you use to get into the right frame of mind to write?
I have to make myself sit down and write, but, I will say that a very important part of my daily routine is to walk before and after my daily writing stint. It just helps process things. Before work, I plan what scenes I want to work on and what key things must happen, and after work, I go over the next stages of the book and sort out what happens next (in a little more detail than I have on my story board).

? How do you decide what you want to write about?
A lot of this comes from emotion. A feeling I have that’s really strong, and then the story wraps itself around that.

? What books have most influenced your life?
John Marsden’s Tomorrow When The War Began
Sara Douglas’s Axis Trilogy

Because these books really got me into fiction. But I also loved anything Roald Dahl!!! Oh, and then Enid Blyton!

? What are you reading right now?
The Dream Thieves, by Maggie Stiefvater

? What do you like to do when you are not writing?
I’m trying to learn how to knit at the moment. It’s not going well. Still, it is fun trying to figure it out! But generally, I like spending time playing board games with my son, reading, and watching great TV series.

? What is your favorite comfort food?
Chocolate. I have this self-saucing chocolate pudding that I indulge in from time to time and it’s incredible. I feel guilty as anything after eating it though, but damn. Yum!

? What do you think makes a good story?
A good story is one where there is a lot of inner and outer conflict and the stakes of the character reaching their goal are high. Oh, and I’m a sucker for romance, so some of that too, please!

? What book, if any, do you read over and over again?
A little Princess, by Frances Hodgson Burnett! Love this story.

Fun random questions:
  • dogs or cats?  Cats. I have two, and they are rascals! But they purr, so I forgive them.
  • Coffee or tea?  Both equally. Love a café coffee, but I drink tea while I work. Big Earl Grey fan!
  • Dark or milk chocolate?  Milk chocolate, although I eat both.
  • Rocks or flowers?  Depends on the rock and the flower, lol. If you’re talking sparkly precious stones, then heck yeah, rocks! I like flowers too, but I am the worst gardener in the world.
  • Night or day?  Day. Hands down. Some people are morning larks, some are night owls, I’m a middle of the day duck.
  • Favorite color?  Green!
  • Crayons or markers?  Makers.
  • Pens or pencils?  Pens.

Now, it’s up to her to draw out her dormant magic, rescue her sister and stop an impending heavenly war threatening to eradicate the human race all while staying alive.

EXERPT

...Searing, damp stones press into my cheek, squishing my other eye closed. I sit up, wiping the nasty grime off my face. The slickness of it makes me wince. God knows what it is. I try to take a deep breath, but fail. Breathing is a chore in the dense, blistering air. It feels like I'm inhaling globs of boiling water. I stand, allowing my limbs time to regain their balance. Suddenly, I'm running down a passageway without any light to guide me... Thousands of butterflies take flight in my stomach as a current of air swiftly engulfs me. I'm falling at a high rate of speed, like the dip in a roller coaster, minus the excitement and safety harnesses. I try to scream, but panic hijacks my voice. I hit the bottom hard, miraculously unscathed.
I stand, wiping a sticky substance off my jeans. I try not to dwell on it. Lifting my arms, I extend them in front of me, searching for a doorway. My hands grope over the hundreds of clammy bricks surrounding me like the bottom of a well. In the loud silence, I hear my name, but Janie isn’t calling me. This voice is lower than a whisper, almost inaudible. Am I losing my mind? Confinement in closed quarters and pitch-black darkness have been known to do that. Again, I hear my name... Anna... It echoes off the tightly enclosed walls, and smacks my ears. It grows louder before abruptly stopping. A velvet voice soothes my sore ears, but makes me jump backwards. The back of my head rams the wall, forcing me to slink onto the ground. My muscles tense and my entire body begins to throb. I prop myself against the bricks, hoping it will cease. I attempt to fold my legs into my chest, but they rebel in pain. I focus my thoughts on survival, rather than the insects I know must be blanketing the ground...

Now, it’s up to Anna to escape from Micah's clutches so she can locate The Scholars and an ancient book before both fall into the wrong hands.

With a fiercely loyal Werewolf and immensely powerful Warlock by her side, what can go wrong?

A lot apparently.

If fighting off the Prince of Darkness wasn’t enough, Anna’s emotions are a whirlwind, as she battles between what fate demands and what she actually wants.

EXERPT

...His magic continues its course through me, draining all of mine. I need to resist... to fight him. I have to do something before he has the chance to completely snuff me out or find The Scholars. My jaw clenches and my hands roll into tight balls. My shoulders tense, preparing myself for the upcoming battle. I focus all of my energy into stopping him. Bit by bit, my magic shoves its way past his like a bully on a schoolyard. His grip stiffens. A trickle of blood glides down the side of my forearm from his piercing fingernails.
“Go ahead, Anna, fight me. I guarantee it will only hurt you more.”

I throw every memory and emotion Micah has created or tarnished, tossing them into the raging furnace of hate burning inside of me. I slam my eyelids shut and Valen’s face pops inside my head. I need to get back to him. I squeeze my eyes tightly, channeling all the vigor I have, hoping to push Micah out. A fissure breaks right down the middle of his magic, allowing mine to explode to the surface. I feel his power retreat as mine conquers his. I flip my eyes open, stealing a glimpse of his face...

Blog Tour: Best Man With Benefits by Samanthe Beck

Welcome to The Wormhole and my stop on the tour.

It is my pleasure to feature Samanthe Beck and Best Man with Benefits.

A little bit about Samanthe Beck:

Wine lover, sleep lover, and USA Today bestselling author Samanthe Beck lives in Malibu, California with her husband, their son, Kitty the furry Ninja, and Bebe the trash talkin’ Chihuahua. When not writing fun, fan-your-cheeks sexy contemporary romances, she searches for the perfect cabernet to pair with Ambien.
Best Man with Benefits  (Wedding Dare #4)
How far can one favor go…Logan McCade arrives at his best friend’s wedding overworked and in desperate need of a vacation, only to discover his best man duties have been…expanded. He must coax Colton’s little sister out of her shell so she doesn’t hide in her room all week. Logan figures he can handle one introverted bridesmaid, but he’s not expecting how much he enjoys “handling” Sophie…or how much she enjoys being handled.

Socializing has never been web designer Sophie Brooks’s strong suit, but she’s determined to shed her wallflower image and embrace the “New Sophie”—a feat made easier with the supremely sexy Logan McCade tempting her to explore all her forbidden fantasies. If she’s not careful, she just might fall for the best man.

Sophie’s sweet, sexy, and delectably awkward demeanor brings much-needed calm to Logan’s hectic life. With the nuptials only days away, Logan is forced to face the possibility that his favor to a friend might have become something else entirely…and that he’s not willing to let Sophie go. Ever.

My thoughts:
Fantastic characters - steamy story.
I found it easy to invest in the characters and enjoyed the interactions.  Logan is incredible, one of those characters that makes a girl wish that storybook men really existed.
This was my first Samanthe Beck and I am intrigued enough to read more from her, as well as reading the rest of the Wedding Dare series.  This story stands alone, but I would suggest reading the series in order.

About the Author:

Convinced dragons have gotten a bad rep throughout time, and more than a little addicted to fairy tales and romance novels, Eden Ashe has decided to re-write history. In her version, the dragons are ancient warriors in tarnished armor, who not only deserve the girl in the end, but will fight forever for her.

Book Description:

Can a kidnapped fairy and a human find love despite all odds?

Nathan Alexander’s batty aunt has done it again. This time she’s sent him a rare plant he doesn’t want. Imagine his surprise when he finds a kidnapped fairy hidden within its leaves. As a man who heads a non-profit organization for abused women and children, Nathan makes it his mission to help her find her way home.
All her life Katenia was warned about the evilness of humans. Never was that proved more true than when she was kidnapped from her quiet valley home. Thrust into the human world, Katenia must fight her very instincts to trust Nathan if she ever hopes to return to her rightful place…and to her normal thumb-sized fairy form.

But with their lives in danger, finding home…and love…will be a journey worthy of a fairy tale.

Excerpt:

“Nathan? Are you alright? You look like you’re contemplating ways to kill me.”

He opened his eyes and glared at her, even as he let out a shuddering laugh. “No, Katenia,” he gritted out through clenched teeth. “Killing you is not what is on my mind. I thought you said we would be a bad idea?”
“I did,” she said, her beautiful face screwing up in confusion. “Pair-bonding between us would never work. Sex, however…sex is a very good idea.”
Nathan nodded once, finally understanding. Ignoring the honking of the line of cars behind him, he rolled up one shirtsleeve and pinched his arm.
“What are you doing?” she asked, her voice worried.
He barked out a laugh when the pain did nothing to wake him from whatever dream he’d landed in. “Testing myself.”
“Oh.” She sighed. “I don’t know what that means.”
“I don’t, either, but considering I am not certifiable enough to have sex with a fairy, the only other logical conclusion is I’m dreaming.”
“Oh,” she repeated, still sounding confused. “Are you dreaming?”
He sighed and shook his head, accepting the facts laid out before him. “No. My whole world view has just been altered, but unfortunately, I am not dreaming.”
Author Guest Post:
WRITING FAIRY TALES IN THE MODERN DAY WORLD
By Eden Ashe

In second grade, I read The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe. It was the first book I remember reading, and from that moment on all I knew I wanted was my own imaginary world to play in.
Then, right after high school, I picked up Almost Heaven by Judith McNaught. Ian was my first book boyfriend and set me on my life-long addiction and love affair with romance novels.
So, when I started writing about ten years ago, all I knew was I wanted to combine my two greatest loves—fairy tales and romances. Unfortunately, as I soon found out, wanting to write such a thing and having the ability to actually pen it and keep it from being cheesy were two completely different things. Which is how it took me ten years to find a way to make it all mesh in my brain into a coherent, interesting, romantic read.
Katen has been in my head almost since the moment I started writing. A fairy who loses her wings and falls in love with the strongest man in the kingdom, a jaded prince running from his past. It was the story I always wanted to write.
And that was when I realized two more issues. One, world building is a long, arduous, years-sucking, backside-kicking endeavor. Two, I majorly—majorly—suck at history. Even a make-believe history of my own creation.
So Katen and her prince, Boden, were pushed to the background of my imagination and left to stew until I could find a more appropriate world for them.
Then, about three years ago, while on a trip to Virginia to see my beloved grandparents, a quiet, stubborn beast of a male in my head jumped to the forefront and demanded I write his story. But contrary to everything I’d thought I’d known about him, he told me he was not only a dragon, but the dragon king, and my Dragon Lore world was created.
Once The Dragon’s Heart was polished, submitted, contracted and ready to be released onto the world, I saw a submission call from my publisher, Lyrical Press, asking for romantic twists on myths, fairy tales, and legends. It was like divine inspiration because hello! this was exactly what I’d been wanting to write my entire career. Before I could stop and overthink it, I twisted what I thought I knew about Katen and Boden into a modern day fairy tale. And if I was writing a fairy in the human world, what better fairy tale to loosely base it on than Thumbelina?
So Boden the jaded prince of a war-torn nation became Nathan, the CEO of a non-profit organization that provided shelter and safety for abused women and children, Katen became Katenia, a fairy of the Lillie Valley who was kidnapped from her home and given to Nathan to care for by his batty aunt.
Most importantly to me, however, was the magical element of fairy tales. How could I kidnap Katenia, thrust her into a human-sized body in a human world, and not only keep it a romance, but keep that sense of magic?
The answer was easier than I would have believed possible: Nathan. He created such a safe world for her that despite her circumstances, despite the newness of riding in a car and experiencing a shopping mall for the first time and the horrors of elevators, she was able to keep her wide-eyed sense of magic and exploration and wonder. And in return, she gave Nathan what he’d never known he was missing, magic and someone to care for him, protect him the way he protected those innocents who needed a safe space in the world.
Yes, Ever Mine is a mash-up of all the different genres I love, but in the end, it’s the story of a fairy thrust into a whole new world and learning how to not only love, but find wonder wherever she ended up. And the human male who loves her with a depth that is nothing short of staggering.
